I don't count them. We have a 20 year tradition of wearing purple for home non conference games outside of the home opener. An alternate implies there's no consistency to it. Recently, we have been wearing the white helmets with the purples.
I always think of alternates like 2007 Tulane or 2009 auburn where they literally wear them once and never again. Or like ND's Kelly greens. Maybe once a year if that.

Purple jerseys with white helmets and white pants is definitely an alternate jersey same as white pants with white jersey and white helmet. If it’s not one of the two traditional combos then it’s an alternate
