Half the battle with the VA is simply not giving up! There are a lot of advocates out there who care and will build a fire under the VA.
My stepson came back from Iraq and later Afghanistan totally screwed up. His NCO chain of command in the 101st totally screwed him over, but his National Guard chain of command took care of him and got him the care he needed. Before he died last year in a motorcycle accident, starting out with a GED, he completed junior college and got his Bachelor's Degree and got his 100% service connected disability. He helped a lot of veterans through the system with the VA.
