I'm in the same market, any reason you aren't considering the TM (transom mount) model? I'm leaning that route to avoid messing with the hull, I'm also in the market for a bigger boat which would allow me to transfer the unit easily. I'm running 2 - 12" Simrads on a 27' Cat, I'm looking at adding a TM265C-LM.

Transom mounts are great for slow speed or stopped, but moving there’s almost always bubbles from the hull which will interfere with your reading. Once you get over a certain price point everyone thru hulls pretty much. It’s just better.
ETA: this is for deeper water 150+ ft.
