Had a similar realization ab a year ago and have continued to have it. A little ahead of you I’m 30 and my dads 62. We’ve always been close, only son always been him and I working around the house. Coming back spending weekends here to help when I wasn’t close in college and soon after. Now live just 7 minutes away and we’re close as we’ve ever been. But I’m the same, always saw him the same as I did towards the end of high school age.

About a year ago we’re outside building a shed for him. My dad and I, my uncle and cousin. His brother is ab 10 years older than he and has some health issues so he’s slowed down manual labor wise awhile ago. For forever my dad has been able to outwork me. I remember kids talking about I lifted more than my dad ect. Never was even close to able to do that lol. Well working on that shed for the first time I noticed him taking more breaks me. As more time goes on I’m noticing more and more examples of it. Just all part of the ride I guess, but it sure sucks.

Since that time we’ve lost my grandmother and my mom has taken a turn for the worse with her MS. I’ve struggled a lot the past year with the extended family dynamic changing. Only tips I’ve got is be present as much as you can and savor every second. One day you won’t be able to get it back.
