They already announced that the 3rd season be a solo Reacher story. The 2 books that are in contention are Die Trying and Worth Dying For. I personally hope it is Worth Dying For. Either one will be good and back to solo Reacher.

I really liked the first season, but this season was way too bubble-gummy for me.

This would be a huge mistake and would probably end the series. This is a book about a right wing paramilitary group basically bent on secession, and the necessary political slant of a story like that would alienate most of what I would assume is the core viewership of the show.

Aside from that, the main villian is basically Jon Hamm’s character from Fargo, and there’s no way Prime will be able to cast and produce a role that would stand up to that, and would look like a B movie knockoff.

Worth Dying For is a really good option, as the setup of these books is usually an indication of how gripping the story will be, and it is a straightforward small town story of Reacher helping an abused woman and finding the husband is big into local crime.

I really like the potential of A Wanted Man:

quote:

In order to get to Virginia, Reacher hitches a ride from a group of three—two men and a woman. An hour behind them, the FBI descends on an old pumping station where a man was stabbed to death—the knife work professional, the killers nowhere to be seen. At the same time Reacher discovers the woman appears to be kidnapped and that the two men are the kidnappers. Reacher now finds himself tied to a volatile situation and it is up to him to try and defuse it.

A lot to work with there.

The other obvious options imo are Nothing to Lose, which is the quintessential small Midwest town corruption story, think Road House, which gets back to the S1 spirit of the show, and 61 Hours, which focuses on a manhunt for a killer after a bus that Reacher is on crashes during a blizzard in North Dakota, if they want the feel of a totally different setting from S1.

Echo Burning has some potential too, with an intriguing border town type setting that the book fell short on imo. It might actually be a good idea to take one of the less successful books and improve on it, rather than trying to duplicate one of the better books like Bad Luck and Trouble this season.
