Agreed. Read the story and you will it's clearly NOT THE CASE with this kid
Exactly my point. I went into the story with a lot skepticism. I think the parents should have accepted that he could never be mainstream. I could also say that she should take more responsibility in her column, but I could also see a civil suit coming out of this and that doing big damage to her liability.
Still, the replies to this thread that act like autism, sociopathy, or psychopathy can just be willed away, or that they deserve no empathy, are fairly depressing.
I agree that we are FAR too quick to overmedicate spurious diagnoses. Those cases do not negate the cases that truly are mental illness.
I'm not at all advocating a lack of consequences here, but there sure is a lot of callous self-righteousness in this thread. Heaven help whoever pops up in your family with one of these issues.
Life has nuance. Keyboard warriors rarely do.

The dude charged her and beat her unconscious. As he was being dragged away he was spitting on her and screaming that he'd kill her.
I'm as empathetic as the next person, but that's a monster. You can call it callous if you want, but he's no different than a pitbull mauling a child at this point. So many people are dead or their kids are dead because they swore they could just nurture it away.
There's no helping this guy. He's damaged and he'll end up killing someone if he's not medicated 24/7 and/or locked in a padded cell.

Been there. Done that. Life is hard.
There are no easy answers.
Now fck off with your judgmental condescension.

Some simply use schools as caretakers for their kids during the day.

If that is what you were seeking, you were looking in the wrong place.
