quote:You've addressed neither the cause of war in 2008, nor the cause of action on Putin's part prior to that.
My original point was that Putin was bombing Georgian cities in 2008. You brought up the cause of the war.
South Ossetians and Abkhazians saw themselves as ethnically and culturally distinct from Georgians and sought increasing autonomy after Georgia gained its independence in 1991. At that point, years before Putin, fighting commenced between Georgian troops and Ossetian militias. Hundreds were killed, but tens of thousands were displaced from their homes.
In 1992, again years before Putin, Abkhazia embroiled in a larger war. This time, there were widespread atrocities. Georgian troops were accused of mass executions, rape and forced expulsions of Abkhazian civilians. Russian troops deployed as peacekeepers in both regions, maintaining an uneasy truce between the separatists and Georgia, once again, this was years before Putin.
South Ossetia and Abkhazia consolidated their de facto independence from Georgia years before Putin with Russian support, despite international non-recognition. In the late 1990's - early 2000's tensions escalated. Russia issued passports to citizens of the breakaway republics. Despite Russian and international peacekeeping efforts, Georgia continued occasional military incursions into Putin's tenure.
However, in 2003 there was one of those pesky revolutions associating Soros with a money laundering nation. In the Rose Revolution (Rose is a color BTW), Mikheil Saakashvili usurped power in Georgia. He announced his intent to retake South Ossetia and Abkhazia by force, and to affiliate with the west to do it.
Not great.
In 2008, after the idiotic NATO Budapest Memorandum, Saakashvili was feeling his oats. He moved on the breakaways. Georgian troops opened fire on Russian peacekeepers, the Russian response in 2008 was a FAFO demonstration to Saakashvili.
Much of Soros’s NABU Ukraine game (2013-present) leaned on his Georgian stooges, I mean supporters, especially Saakashvili (who had to flee Georgia). David Sakvarelidze, the dude who Obama/Biden/Soros used to undercut Viktor Shokin, was a BFF of Saakashvili. All this as Saakashvili faced numerous criminal charges in Georgia including extortion, embezzlement, attempted assassination, and a litany in Ukraine as well. Eventually Ukraine exiled him. Now he's in jail in Georgia.

It’s astonishing how you people allow the propaganda to get you to defend murderers like Putin.
