very possible. Also possible that his own family sees the poor way he has approached the issue and the damage he is doing and trying to help because they love him and his kids. Maybe both.

If your own family is siding with an ex, it’s a red flag. Maybe it’s the family that has issues, but one needs to take a hard look at himself before reaching that conclusion.
