Umpires missed 84 calls in the #ALCS and 46 went against the #Astros. They combined for a correct call rate of 90.8% (league average 92.5%). The crew consisted of Scheurwater (42nd of 92), Ripperger (39th), Hoye (54th), Eddings (86th), Hudson (51st), and Baker (45th).

Totally normal for 55% of blown calls to go against 1 team over 7 games.

Whatever we were our own worst enemies. The fouled off rolled over meatballs did far more to doom us than the umpires. I thought they were far more egregious in Arlington.

You would expect the calls to be slightly influenced by the home crowd, esp in a playoff atmosphere. So the 55% is not surprising, but the fact that it was in favor of the team that had one less home game is very surprising.

And in fact, the home game influence was remarkably evident in 2 Astros postseason games this year. One in Minnesota, the other in Arlington. Every missed call in these games went in favor of the home team, yet the Astros still won these games, going away.

By chance, my old MiLB friend still consults with MLB. His specialty now? Umpire relations. LOL

I’m told we won’t have to be patient much longer. He’s not particularly an Astros fan, but did work with Purpura a number of years. There is a general awareness that the league has not done the Astros any favors when it comes to subjective matters.
