Friend,
Mother makes a very good muffuletta using the ingredients and technique listed above. If you go to the side entrance at Gendusa’s Bakery during open hours they will gladly sell you both muffuletta rounds and poorboy loaves at a very good price and right out of the oven. Gendusa’s supplies the best bread in the city for both of her trademark sandwiches.
Mother’s salads are not particularly good, however. But her roast is wonderful and applied to a loaf of Gendusa’s poorboy bread with some Crystal splashed on at the last minute, is an exceptional version of the poorboy. Sometimes she will serve the sandwich with the roasted carrots and potatoes from the roast tucked neatly in the loaf, which are better than lettuce and tomato.
