It's not like Tom Benson demanded much more than Gale does now. He got lucky and caught lightening in a bottle with Payton and Brees at the end of his ownership. This caused people to have a revisionist view on him. He was a shitty owner for the two decades before that and only kept the team in NOLA after Katrina because of Paul Tagliabue.
