1969. First play from scrimmage: halfback pass (actually backup QB in HB position) throws to Andy Hamilton for TD. Nobody, but nobody, expected the conservative Cholly Mac to call such an audacious play.

Actually, he played RB all of 1969. Played QB in 1868. Safety in 1967.

Jimmy Gilbert's only TD pass as a Tiger, and it was a good one! Very un-McClendon like play-- I don't ever recall him stretching the envelop like that either before or after that play

I was also at that classic 1969 game in which LSU edged Auburn, led by Pat Sullivan at QB.
That pass by Jimmy Gilbert was a great moment, along with the blocked field goal and blocked extra point later in the game.
