Bring plenty of money, Oktoberfest is expensive. If it's available, stop in at the "Alte Wiesen", it's like Oktoberfest used to be. Go early and get a good spot in a beer tent and let yourself be overwhelmed by the noise and atmosphere of a couple of thousand drunk people in a tent. Don't drink every time the "eins, zwei, gsuffa" refrain is played. Pace yourself. I worked in Munich 26 years and can attest: it's easy to lose control at Oktoberfest. I know EMT's and police who worked it (it's kind of a right of passage for them), and the stories I've heard from them are pretty wild. Don't want to be too negative here, but a lot of unpleasant things happen there - drunks fondling women, fights fueled by the beer, pickpockets. Just keep your wits about you. You'll probably meet cool people from around the world and make some close friends for a couple of hours. If the weather is like it is this year, it will be beautiful.

As for other things, with your time schedule, you can see Salzburg and Innsbrück easily. Maybe Prague, but you can experience so much more remaining in a closer geographical area. If you have any questions, just ask on this thread and I'll try to help. I live 40 miles away.
