She should feel bad, she ran over a living animal based on her carelessness. It's ok to feel sorrow and realize you fricked up.

They lay in the drive all the time and barely get out of the way and want to meander around the tires.

I told her you can't stop, just go super slow and not change direction rapidly. When you stop they think you are done and going to get out to see them.

Some people say just keep them in. We live in the country on a dead end road. I feel it's cruel to keep them locked up.
