Schmeichel was more elite at his position
Dennis Irwin was more elite at his position
Jaap Stam was more elite at his position
Roy Keane was more elite at his position
Paul Scholes was more elite at his position

You could argue Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, and Ryan Giggs were too

Man all of them were good but I think you are forgetting United's play style at this time. Without beckhams crossing into the box or long balls, probably half of the teams goals are negated. shite he had 9 goals and 13 assists in 97/98. Scholes had 8/5, Giggs 8/9, Keane while more defensive 2/0. Edit: Schmeichel was at the end of his career in 98 he retired in 99.

He made that side tick.

It's an interesting discussion. Honestly I was prolly exaggerating to make my point. That team really didn't have a guy that everything went through. They were great because every player was really good and they played as a cohesive unit. My point was to say that I don't think Beckham was the best player on the team. He was a very valuable member, but not the best.

Also, I definitely remember the 98/99 season with a lot more clarity as I was young at the time. Maybe Becks had a dip in play coming off the World Cup and that's what I'm basing it off of.
