I respect your devotion to this theory of yours, but you're missing, if you will, the forest for the tree.

Ask yourself this - how many bear attack survivors, and there have been many, have claimed the "ol' keep the tree between us" strategy as the trick to their survival?

i will say this though, to your point, you might be able to buy a couple precious seconds using this strategy, and that might be the time you needed to get your bearspray out and armed
