Someone on the food board mentioned this. What's the process to freeze them, and thaw them, and are they still easily pickable?

I don’t have any experience freezing whole crabs, but from what I understand, you can’t freeze them very long because the fat will get rancid pretty quickly.

I would want to vacuum pack them though if I did freeze them.

I could be remembering incorrectly but I don’t have the Crab Bible in front of me to confirm.

My grandparents would pop the shell, clean the gills and wrap them in butcher paper. To heat up they would steam them or they used them in gumbo or whatever. They taste pretty good to me but I will eat cold crabs for breakfast the day after a boil.

Yeah if pop them and scrap all the fat out you can freeze them for a while.

How long can boiled crabs stay in the fridge before you’d not trust them?

I’ve eaten them a week after the boil with no problem.

But then again, I’ll eat anything.

This, but I'm also the type that keeps all leftovers for a week.
