The most important foods have almost all been genetically modified or bio engineered.

If it wasn’t for bio engineered wheat by Norman Borlaug the world would have about a billion less people. Not to mention corn and many other modern fruits and vegetables were very small until they were modified.

Yeah, genetic experiments with food have yielded a lot of very important (positive) results, and there have been some important nutritional deficits addressed in Asia and Africa if I recall.

There probably should be some clarification as to what “bioengineered” means, because altering the number of chromosomes is common and easy (and responsible for edible bananas, and I think seedless watermelons, too).

In terms of forced gene insertions, as above- some very important ones are out there and have been good.

All citrus shares a common ancestor plant that’s been bred and modified to the dozenish varieties we love and enjoy today.
