I'd love to see stats on qb sneak on 3rd/4th and 1 compared to Shotgun play action

It has to be 95% vs 35%. I realize Notre Dame didn't get 1 tonight, but that is literally the 1st one I've seen fail to convert on 3rd or 4th and 1 in years, years. I think I've seen Jalen Hurts convert like 20 of 20 for the Eagles.

What I don't understand is how coaches like BK think it's a good idea to start 5 yards behind LOS, so it's really 4th and 6, run play action (fake handoff) burning 3 seconds of time allowing defense to apply more pressure, then let Jayden run to try to get 6 yards with defense in his face because the play action delaying running.

It really can't be that hard to see right? Am I crazy? Like it really can't be that hard to see?

Wondered this for a while.

No one does I-form sneak, dive, or FB runs for short yards anymore.

Can’t be less successful than shotgun setup.

Like you said, shotgun adds 5 yards.

Most college QBs suck absolute arse under center and have no confidence in it whatsoever

If I had to guess it’s probably more like 60/40 in college in favor of the offense. Better odds, yes, but I can see how coaches think they have less control over those plays. Especially if they have doubts about the interior executing. At least when you’re in the gun, there’s more variability for stud athletes to make plays.

I can see this both ways

The shotgun in a yard to gain situation blew up for Bama in a hilarious way yesterday. Bizarre considering Milroe is a tank.
