I will give you one piece of advice. My husband dad went 10 years ago, so equipment may have changed. My dad was an amateur photographer and they made him put his camera thru the xray machine and he lost 75% of his pics from the trip. so just make sure to insist they not run the SD cards thru.

I've taken a lot of good pictures in SA and Namibia with my cannon Rebel. But I also swap out lenses and filter kits a lot, doing A/b/c tests.
