Sabin arguing with a space donkey for four minutes was not exactly the height of cinema or exciting. The episode was boring, the only thing it accomplished was introducing two characters that we knew about anyway; and it took 40 minutes to do basically nothing. Literally NOTHING of substance happened in 40 minutes of television. The fact is they are relying on legacy, uncanonized property as a blueprint for this show and they are doing a poor job of adapting it.
So far the series has been hit and miss.
