I saved my 18-month niece when she fell out of a shopping cart head first in the Home Depot parking lot. I caught her before she landed. Years later she was choking, and I saved her again.
When she was 20, she was very troubled, and her Mom asked if she could come to live with me in DFW. I declined.
A month later she was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
I still feel that if I said yes the last time, she would still be alive today.
