it will matter more that we lost close to one of the five champions than if we beat some cupcake once folks start splitting hairs.

We can still schedule quality OOC opponents...just not in week 1

It gets a lot harder to schedule quality opponents as the year goes on. Nobody is playing conference games week 1.

My personal opinion is that the system kind of begs you to either play cupcakes or play big time OOC games. Playing middle-of-the-pack power 5 teams puts you in a situation where you have a lot to lose but little to gain. So if I’m going to play an OOC power 5 game, I’d rather it be against a top 10 team than a borderline ranked team. Of course that can be hard to predict years in advance.

I also think we may be reading a little too far into the whole “not being ready to play week 1” thing. The program is still stabilizing and I think we will have more continuity once we aren’t filling so many gaping holes with transfers.

I honestly hope the SEC goes to 9 games + 2 required P5 games, rather than LSU going to more cupcakes. Either way I think it matters a lot less once we start the 12 team playoff.

So you’d schedule a tough game where we play Army or Georgia state this year? Besides the impracticality given that power five teams will be in the heart of their league schedule and won’t want to do it, you want to risk a loss or a grueling win that beats up that late?

So dumb
