So if you rewatch the ending there’s little clues to his Dad recognizing him. The way that he almost introduces him as “Grandfather” to his daughter (and the look he gives). The way he interacts with Ray’s wife.
And when Ray asks, you can almost see his Dad get choked up.

That’s the vibe I got too. It’s one of those movies I could watch 50 times in a lifetime and not tire of it.
