I never listened to country the first 35 years of my life. Can’t stand “bro country “ but the last 5 years became obsessed with good shite (Sturg, Tyler. Charley Crockett, even some old stuff)

Anyway is it possible to be a fan of bro country AND the stuff I like? I can’t see how it’s possible to listen to “she thinks my tractors sexy” followed by “take my hounds to heaven “

Thoughts?

Just let it be a natural progression. The good should root out the bad.
If you are still listening to bro country 2 years from now, you can go to the social security office. prove that you are retarded and get on disability.
You'll have all the evidence you need.

Are you asking if people can possibly like Kenny Chesney and Charley Crockett at the same time?

Do you like journey and led zepplin? Kenny G and Dave Brubeck? Black Eyed Peas and Outkast?

Unfathomable.

Well clearly it’s possible to like both popular and independent artists. Many people do.

Charley Crockett is one of my favorite artists. But I keep a playlist of pop country as well. It’s not my favorite but it has its place.

I can’t always listen to Mike and the moonpies, turnpike, Crockett, and bluegrass sturgill. But I like a huge variety of music. Don’t hate certain artists or bands just because they’re popular. Keep and open mind and like what you like.

You don’t think it’s horribly mind numbing when you hear lyrics about Cold beer in the console and fried chicken?

Makes my skin crawl

when you have an aged perfect filet steak, it's hard to eat a wal mart steak. Can it be done? Sure. I'm just not going to seek that out.

this is a stupid novelty song that i've never liked, but i would hardly consider 90s Kenny Chesney to be considered the archetypal "bro country", especially considering what the the late 00s, 2010s, and 2020s have produced and continue to produce. the album that song is on (everywhere we go) is decent enough for 90s country fans (of which i am one).

maybe it's just because the name of the song is so damn annoying and memorable. really a dumb misstep for Chesney, in my opinion.

You can like one genre of country and not another. Some people just like Bluegrass - who cares.

Bro country is basically pop music - if it's your thing, cool and if it's not, cool

Ummm... How about you like what you like and not worry about the category it falls into?? I can go from listening to Whiskey Myers to listening to Dre and 2pac. If it's good to you then it's good.

For me it’s totally situational. If I’m in my truck by myself or at home cooking I’m playing Zach Bryan, TT, Childers isbell etc. but if I’m at the camp ground or on the boat with family or friends I’m playing some feel good “bro country” it’s purely situational.

I like a lot of different varieties, everything from Glen Campbell to Charley Pride to Sturgill to early Taylor Swift and Blake Shelton, etc.

The mainstream country of 2009-13 is what was on the radio when I first started driving, in high school, etc so I have a nostalgic connection to it, not really into much after that though, other than some random songs here and there.

To me, it’s not possible. One you hear the real stuff, you can’t go back. Artists like Sturgill, Tyler, Cody Jenks, Whitey Morgan, and Billy Strings are the true musical descendants of Merle, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Hank, Bill Monroe, George Jones, and etc. They are the true bearers of the tradition of country music that branched out of the Carter Family, and Jimmy Rodgers.

The stuff Nashville puts out on the mainstream is a cheap knockoff that they attempt to pass as country to the ignorant. It’s garbage, and should be forgotten.
