Can I highjack your thread and ask a related question?
In NFL OT, if you win the toss and you trust your D, why wouldn’t you defer if you when the toss. If they kick a field goal, you still got the ball back with the opportunity to win or tie and go into another overtime.
Maybe more of a thought for a defensive battling? Like if they’ve managed one to no TD’s all day what are the odds they’ll get one on the first possession of OT.

The frick? Now this is a take! They don't do this because if you did and they score a touchdown you are unemployed on Monday. Hell you may be looking for one either way.
