I understand the argument about cleanliness, etc. But does anyone else think its weird that certain styles of clothing are considered "nice" while others are not?

If you put on a pair of sweatpants and a long-sleeved t-shirt, you are wearing the same material as someone wearing slacks and a button-down shirt. But the latter is "dressed nice" and "looks nicer" than the former. Why? Just because of the styling on the clothes, and because society has told you someone looks "nicer" when they tuck in their shirt.

Same thing with a suit. Why is putting on a suit jacket and an entirely useless strip of cloth tied around your neck considered formally dressed, but not if you put on a bomber jacket and a scarf?

I wear a suit all the time, and I have a number of really nice, well-tailored ones. But I wear them because it is expected. I think its stupid.
