Interesting, would have never considered Oxford an option. We want to be within a half day drive of our current home so this could work.
Do you currently live there, and have a rec swimmer?
Yes currently live here and have a rec swimmer. Swimming program is year round and we are associated with Tupelo shockwave aquatics. We are independent of Tupelo financially but we do plan swim meets with Tupelo. A couple times a year we rent a bus and team up with Tupelo for overnight meets for exposure. Last year we went to Auburn and I believe somewhere in South Alabama.
Two years ago we had the fastest female swimmer in MS and she is now doing the olympic trials. This year we have one of the top swimmers again on the boys side. Some of the top swimmers in the past have joined the XC team and strictly for the morning VO2 max workouts.
We currently have a indoor pool that we "rent" from Ole Miss. The problem with the swim program is that we could get kicked off campus at anytime if the kids don't behave. All the kids know the rules and we haven't had any major issues but it will always be hanging over the programs head because we don't own the pool.
We just lost one of the better swim coaches in the country. He was nominated for national swim coach of the year after winning both the state and south swim coach of the year. He moved onto the college ranks. He left the program in excellent shape and the current coach was his assistant for many years.
Baton Rouge is about 5-6 hour drive depending on how many times you stop. I am usually closer to 6 hours because I stop 1-2 times and get something to eat enroute back to Baton Rouge.
