You have the perfect set up. Close to friends and family, both grandparents in same town, and house almost paid off. Why would you want to move your children away from their grandparents when you have no clear place to move to? The grass isn’t greener on the other side.
To the people recommending NC, North Carolina is not some utopia. I would never move anywhere near Charlotte. Asheville crime is awful and it’s crazy liberal.
My mother died this year. I live 10 hours from where she did and wish I had seen her so much more now. Your kid in high school definitely will think you are ruining their life unless they have an awful school situation. If you don’t have to move and have such a nice situation, why would you? I would seriously think about everything you are giving up moving. If you are unhappy in life, moving won’t fix that. Maybe focus more on investing in aspects of life that you find fulfilling like time with your kids or nicer family vacations but I’d figure out why you are WANTING to move.

To give my kids a better quality of life and not have them end up staying in Louisiana for us (break the cycle).
We pay ridiculous amounts in insurance and taxes with nothing to show for it.
I’ve been to other cities/towns and there is more to do, weather is nicer, etc.
