Find an honest dentist.

One of my qualifiers was I wouldn't go to dentists that accepted Medicaid/Medicare. That worked out well (ETA: I'm not being ironic.)

I met my current dentist though our ex-wives, and he and his associate dentists are as honest as they come.

Treat it like a car dealership, just walk out. Then don't go back to your original dude, for anything.

My 1st cousin finally retired and I randomly chose the new general dentist and periodontist (retired a year earlier). Either you got unlucky or I got really lucky.

New dentist is not only reasonable but understanding. With my GI issues he said to just call when I can and they will work me in THAT day for some fillings.

The perio has put up with me puking both in the office and in the parking lot, only commenting sympathetically.

Keep looking you will find one. Try the farther out of the city for a more laid back rather than hustling to pay the bills and put on a show type.
