This guy makes it (barely) on 40 hours per week. That’s the same situation my wife and I were in back in 1985. But I didn’t just work 40 hours per week. I worked about 55. And you know what we did with all of that extra money? Well, we didn’t blow it on indulgences like vacations and restaurants. We saved, and we developed the financial cushion I referred to in the post above.

You guys think we had it easier, but we didn’t. We (some of us) were just more willing to put in the extra work. You’re not willing. Don’t blame us for that.
That dude either doesn't know how to manage his money or he has no clue what a "very good paying job" actually is.

HAS to be 1 of the 2.

I work at a paper mill in maintenance so we make more than 90% of the rest of the mill. I do work as much over time as I can that's how we make it, but sometimes they won't let us work over 40 hrs.

I don't think you guys realize what it takes to raise a family of 5, pay a house note, insurance, utilities, groceries, gas and all the other expenses that come up. A damn washing machine now costs $500, water heater is $800 etc.

His name is “offshoretrash.” I’ve worked with enough of those dudes and even the ones that made six figures were always broke. Terrible money managers and their wives spent money like they were millionaires. And usually lived in mobile homes, making six figures.

Years ago had a roughneck showing a picture of his new F-250 to a friend of mine. In the background was a rundown mobile home. My friend says, “Is that your trailer in the background?” Guy says yes. My friend says, “Man you bought a $70,000 truck and you live in a $5,000 mobile home? You’ve got your priorities all fricked up.”
