*Edit: Maybe my concern is individuals claiming they have a degree (using that terminology). I went to the state institution and received my diploma. I LOATHE the comparison.*

This makes it seem even more petty.

I would be pissed about it if I went to ULM, considering the history of the UL system. But I couldn’t care less whether someone says they went to “Louisiana,” or “University of Louisiana,” or whatever. It has absolutely zero impact on me as an LSU grad.

And even ULM grads don’t have that much room to be pissed considering the histories of the two universities. ULL is an older school, has twice the enrollment, a considerably larger endowment, and is the only other R1 public school in Louisiana (aside from LSU). If a school were to take the “Louisiana” moniker, it would clearly be ULL. Their gripe really comes down to the (political) agreement when the current University of Louisiana System was formed.

Again, though - that doesn’t matter one bit for LSU grads. People/companies who actually care about undergraduate program prestige are more than capable of distinguishing between the schools. And people who don’t care.. well.. they don’t care, so what difference does it make?
