First question I'd ask is how large is the yard? If it's something you could easily use a couple sprinklers for, then it wouldn't really be a problem. If you have to constantly move sprinklers around all day to keep the lawn wet, then it may become a pain in the butt.

I'll also say adding a sprinkler system in after sod or established seed really isn't a big deal. But, getting the sod to take, or getting seed to germinate properly is MUCH easier with a sprinkler system installed.
