Let’s say you have a child who is fully functioning but a tad socially awkward. What does diagnosing that child as “on the spectrum” do besides give them a crutch to be a victim their entire lives?

Gives them a heads up on having to focus on skill development through childhood, would be a big one. Gives them a heads up on how they'll have to learn to navigate social interactions. Gives them essentially every possible advantage to turn the table tilted against them, either away from that weakness, or towards a strength.

Its pretty damned invalauble for a huge number of kids, even if you have half the little shits using it as a crutch.
