Look, I understand that everyone tries to "make it their own" version, but why in the hell do they have to butcher it? Why can't anyone just sing it the way it is meant to be sung? Our national anthem gives me chills, but when I hear these people try to "jazz it up", it makes me wanna slap 'em. I mean, save that stuff for the Whitney Houstons (maybe not the best example ) of the world...Am I the only one who thinks this? Yes, I am ready for the "fear of change" and "you are old" bashings, so bring it...

yes, but that is nowhere close to what my point is and I thought a Tulane guy would have the sense enough to know that. Guess not.

Why is it ok for Jimi to do what he did and not ok for something else?

(Who sang it today?)

Hey, I don't mind making your own version and being original and all of that, I am just saying that when you sing our country's "theme song" with an international audience, I find it a bit arrogant to add synthesizers and half-naked women rapping the chorus, that's all. Everyone has the right to do things how they want, I was just offering my opinion and asking if anyone else felt the same.

The Star Spangled Banner is an expression of loyalty to the United States and to remind us that we sometimes have to fight to defend it. It is NOT a tool for somebody to add their "personal touch." When you sing it, sing it the way it's supposed to be sung.

Haha, and you guys think Obama voters are socialists.

The reason to leave the national anthem as is is because when you try to get cute with it, it usually sucks. It's a grandiose song, and making it poppy just doesn't work.

However, individualism and a right to expression are both traditions that have been around longer than the national anthem itself, so please keep the "Don't frick with my song!111" bullshite at a minimum.

I don't like freedom of speech either, so we should stick to rigid traditions

Sorry if I offended you in any way. Yes, I do like jimi's (or anyone talented enough as him-few and far between)to create their own version and let them be unique, just not on an international stage trying to make a name for themselves. I guess I am just used to my tulane buddies picking fights. Happy Thanksgiving man
