You are putting way too much emphasis on what you saw in a few preseason games. Practice reps were infinitely more valuable. I know nothing about Yiadom, so I’m not knighting for him. But they probably liked what he brings to special teams and think they can develop him into a serviceable CB at some point.

But I don’t think any of the CBs listed after the 1st 3 are actual 2nd-string backups, especially if nickel is gonna basically be our base. I’m assuming if Latt or Adebo go down, Taylor kicks outside and one of the backup safeties takes his place at nickel. Obviously if Taylor goes down, that same guy would take his spot at nickel.

And while I didn’t agree with your “Prentiss or Graham” take—I think we get too caught up on the letters next the players’ names and forget it’s just 53 guys. We can call 8 of them TEs if we want. I do agree with you—and a handful of others’ take on Prentiss. I’ve been saying all week that we don’t need a FB in this offense with this roster. Taysom can do everything Prentiss does, only better and even more. Line him up behind the guard or tackle as an
H-back/FB/TE hybrid (like I said, who cares what the letters next to their names are) and he can lead block to the side he’s lined up on, you can motion him to the other side to block, you can hand it off to him on a mini-jet sweep, he can pause and pick up an edge rusher or chip him and leak out into the flat for a short pass, put him in motion and have him run an actual route that compliments what the WRs are running.

So many more creative things you can do with him that you can’t with Prentiss. At worst, he’s a decoy that defenses will have to at least keep an eye on. The opponents WANT Prentiss in the game. It takes a more threatening weapon off the field. The 10 4th and 1s or 3-4 passes out in the flat to Prentiss all season aren’t worth a roster spot imo. They are too precious and he doesn’t provide enough value to take up one when we’ve got Taysom and need to find more creative ways to get him the ball. I don’t think we’re gonna be taking Carr off the field to let Taysom run QB power as much as we were willing to with an aging Brees or Bridgewater/Jameis/Dalton.
