I think a large percentage of these people have simply adopted politics as entertainment/hobby, so they just go along with this dumb shite because it’s their daily source of entertainment. It’s like fan fiction.

You are highly unlikely to talk them out of these beliefs so just talk to them about things that are more personal and immediate and avoid current events and politics.

Yep, this has been my strategy, but you never know when some casual comment will derail the conversation. Agree with another comment that conspiracy theories are similar to fan fiction, that makes a lot of sense. Seems futile to push back.
