Got home about 2:30 from a meeting in Bham today. Was going to go upstairs to my office to knock out some work and felt it about halfway up the stairs. It was still blowing air but nowhere near cool. When I looked at the thermostat, it was reading 85. Called my AC guy and now I’m waiting on him to call me back. FML.

I’m thinking the condenser may have froze up.

If it had been mine, it would have happened on a holiday weekend.

Knock on wood, the downstairs is fine. My AC guy just called, he’ll be here in a minute.

He’s outside looking at the unit now. Hopefully it won’t cost too much. I’m very lucky in that my AC guy is a good guy and a good friend. He and I coached little league together for years. I know I can trust him.

Well that was quick. He’s already fixed it. The capacitor went out. Cost me $100.

turn it off, its grabbing attic heat and blowing it into the house, off is best until you find out whats going on outside.

if the air was blowing but not cold, thats an outdoor unit issue.

might be as simple as the run capacitor crapped out

this is what I did. I have one sitting on the shelf just in case. Like I said, I was on the "don't frick with it" side of the issue until the last repair. I know I can handle this one.

That’s a good idea my downstairs unit is bigger than the upstairs so I’m guessing it will be a different part number.

Happened to me a week or two ago and my wife said it’s just hot out and the AC can’t keep up. It was 99 in my fricking office Called the AC company and they fixed it in a couple days once the part came in.

yes they almost always are different

in the pic posted below, the 70 is the compressor side, and the 7.5 is the fan motor side, the voltages are all 440v on capacitors

so in this pic you would replace it with a 70uf by 7.5uf dual capacitor
