Any mechanic would love to work on 20+ year old vehicles because they are a whole lot simpler than modern day vehicles are.

Not necessarily.
Most 20+ year old vehicles are rolling shitpiles that every hack with a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, and more than 3 teeth in his head has butchered on trying to diagnose a problem they have no idea how to confront.
Then the owner wants to pay discount price for someone who knows what they are doing to fix their shitpile right, while undoing what everyone else has fricked up. It doesn't work that way.
The decent 20 year old vehicle is rare, and usually a one-owner with low miles that has been garage kept and well maintained.

They are few and far between.

Whoa!! I retired three yrs ago after 40 yrs as a mechanic. I didn't like seeing old cars being pulled into one of my bays and much preferred the newer cars loaded with tech. None of the guys in the shop liked working on the older cars. Too many of them had far too many problems with owners that typically wanted to patch them up and nurse them along. Now, not all old car owners are this way-but far too many of them are.
