Because it was a non-con game, LSU had to get permission from the visiting team to wear white. The SEC's rule was home teams didn't have to get permission from visiting conference teams, but it was only an SEC rule that didn't have jurisdiction in OOC games where typically home teams do have to get permission to wear white at home. Oregon State didn't want to wear black in the South LA heat so they forced LSU to wear purple so they could wear their whites.

In 07 MSU was the home team so they also forced LSU to wear purple since as a conference game they didn't need permission from the visiting team by SEC rule
