Our family has bought several simple wooden caskets from St. Joseph’s Abbey. Support the monks. Don’t pay the thieving funeral home business.

I bought (near) identical caskets from them in Fall 2008 and early 2017, because that's what my parents wanted. I believe it was the monastic style. The price almost doubled in less than 8-1/2 years.

Maybe they were trying to recoup legal fees spent fight Big Funeral, maybe it was the 2016 flood damage to their shop, maybe it was because of their increased popularity. I don't know. But now, in addition to the shysters at the funeral home, you've got monks taking advantage of you too.

Buried my dad in a St. Joseph's Abbey coffin and I know HE would have been very happy about that.

My grandfather helped the monks start that program and taught some of them how to make the caskets. They also do nice wooden boxes for ashes.

How have I never heard of this?!? I always said I wanted a hand-made pine box with no embalming (those chemicals are nasty). Now I can upgrade to cypress and support the spreading of the Gospel. Win/ win.
