Graphite shafts on irons

I had stiff Recoils in a set of mizuno JPX 900 tours. Loved the action, just wasn’t good enough to hit the heads consistently. I have one in my hybrid and it’s a rocket

I’m trying an experiment with some LITE graphite shafts, and I love em. Stable like steel, but they swing themselves almost. Let’s me play stress free. I am a very smooth swinger. Let’s me feel like I am directing where the ball goes rather hitting it to a spot.

With graphite, you’re suppose to play them a little longer. These are actually just under standard and I’m still a club longer because of the weight. Never chunk em either.

Really? You think I use steel shafts throughout my bag? I said from 120-140 yards out, which is a gap- 9 iron for me, and around 130 grams in weight.

I’d venture to say your experience with modern graphite is very limited based on your original post. Graphite has come a long way. Steelfibers feel identical to steel but they’re graphite. Plenty of pros are playing graphite as well. Steel is costing you performance and causing unnecessary wear and tear on your joints.

I took a set of cally’s to pga superstore to get regrippred about 5 years ago and walked out with a set of ping irons with very light shafts compared to what I have always played. Sure they went super high, and long, but my handicap got worse. That ping set sits in the basement now. I’ve been playing golf 33 years and am just giving someone who asked for advice my opinion.

Not criticizing your opinion, baw. Just saying that you may be basing your opinion off of limited tinkering. Ping Alta shafts aren’t a good experience, IMO. I find them whippy. Paderson, LAGolf, Aerotech, and even uST Recoils to some degree, make exceptionally better shafts over a stock Ping Alta.

I’ve been meaning to try the mmt as welll.

That is a very inaccurate statement to say the least brother.


There are a lot of great shafts for irons out the in all weights, torques and flex's.

Diamana MMT and Tensi, Steel Fiber, Oban, Fuji Axiom and Ventus, UST and on and on. Plenty of these shafts are used on the tours.

Example : I haven't met anyone that can over power these shafts below. I guarantee they are as accurate as any steel shaft.

Both the Ping graphite options feel loose to me. Do yourself a solid and give a Recoil or Steelfiber a swing next time you’re in a golf store. Your joints will love you long time…. As will your scores
