Right? What’s the average out of pocket cost for having a child if you’re not on Medicare (and we’re talking just the actual birth and very short hospital stay)?

You also have to as a couple either (a) make enough money to pay rent/mortgage, child care and expenses or (b) for one of the two to make enough for house and expenses and allow the other spouse to stay home with the kids. That takes at least 5-10 years after college for most people, especially in moderately urban areas, and that’s if they have a really good job and do well at it.
