I just think there are more casual sport fans who will tune into USC vs Ohio State or Texas vs Alabama than 4th generation Oregon State families who refuse to watch out of spite which is ultimately what TV is betting on
If you’re just talking Oregon state, sure.
But are there more causal fans than Oregon state, Iowa, ole miss, Kentucky, South Carolina, Purdue, etc.. You’re missing the bigger picture just comparing a USC / Alabama game to Oregon state fans protesting.
I just feel like there’s a gross exaggeration on the number of casual college football fans in the northeast compared to the number of diehard fans you’re potentially running off.

I was in Boston a few years ago the night Boston College lost at home to Kansas 48-24. I remember thinking that if they were in the South, they'd have run Steve Addazio out on a rail that night. No one there cared at all.
Casual sports fans in the northeast are not going to stop what they're doing to watch college football.
