Look at it from an economic point of view. It is far cheaper for society to pay for medicine that decreases major health issues caused by obesity than it is to pay for the treatment of major health issues caused by obesity. The same also applies to off-label drug/alcohol addiction issues being treated by these drugs. It becomes even more economically advantageous if you consider that the previous obese/addicted are now able to potentially contribute more to society.
