Kudos to you and your "traditions" I guess if you'd rather see #1 Pac 12 champ USC play against 10-2 Michigan in the rose bowl, while #2 Alabama plays 9-3 Kansas State in the Sugar bowl. And then letting random voters pick on who the "national champion" is between Bama and USC.

Anybody who says they wouldn't want to see Alabama vs USC in this scenario is nuts. This is what the rose bowl prevented for years.
Counterpoint-

If USC, Alabama and Oklahoma all finished undefeated and won their respective bowls, all three fanbases are happy, and there's a lot of shite-talking in the offseason and next year. And a desire to see each other on schedules soon, while the teams are still strong. Both by the programs, who want to settle it on the field, and the networks, who want to show that game.

As for me (an LSU fan), I don't really care that much about the above teams, and who is ranked where... other than the fact that I don't want an anti-SEC bias, because that would affect my team when it has a good year.

With a playoff, you now have USC fans pissed at losing in the finals, and Oklahoma fans upset they lost in the semi's. You have 1 group happy, instead of several.
