I would avoid Temple Bar, it was kind of fratty when I went during the day, and seemed kind of like Times Square. There were a couple of druggy beggars, but I've heard it's gotten worse north of the Liffey in the city center.

Go to the GPO (General Post Office) so you can check the box. If you have the funds or Marriott points, stay at the Shelbourne, and in a "named" suite if you can. The wife will be grateful to you.
