Thinking about planning a little golf trip around the same weekend as the Ole Miss game on September 30. Are there good courses in Oxford, or would I be better off staying somewhere an hour or so out for better golf (and where would that be)?

Tee times in or near Oxford are likely already booked solid. Better luck looking an hour or so away from Oxford

If you don’t mind an 1 1/2 hour drive. See if you can stay and play at old waverly/mossy oak. They are in West Point which is only 15 minutes from state if you ever came to a game there. These two are by far the best golf courses in north Mississippi

ETA: that’s the same weekend we play bama in Starkville so 99% they are already booked. Sorry

Oxford CC is a great track I have played twice. Call your pro to get you on.

Two very underrrated golf courses on a national level.

for an affordable option check out dogwoods near grenada (about an hour from oxford). i've not played it but i've heard good things. maybe someone else can comment on it

I play it occasionally. It gets played HEAVILY on the weekends. I sneak over there every couple weeks on a weekday and it’s pretty chill then. Fairways and tee boxes needed a rain last time I was out there (like everything else in this part of the world), but the greens were in good shape for the most part.

**Will say that the place has like 130 “bunkers” and none of them have sand in them anymore. They’re all just waste areas now, grown up in native weeds, and they’re rocky. I’ll hit into one or two a round, and will play out of it if looks okay, but since I’m not interested in fricking up my clubs, if there’s any question about rocks I just pull the ball out and drop no closer to the hole within a club length of the lip of the bunker. Don’t know what the rule is on that, really don’t care… They really need to figure out a way to work on some of the green side bunkers and then try to make the rest of them grass bunkers or something.

If you can overlook the shite bunkers, it’s a reasonable value at $45 on the weekend. Not going to be any bev carts, or anything like that, but they’ve got water coolers stationed every 3 holes or so, and 9 finishes at the clubhouse if you need a snack.
