Back in 1975 I was 3 and playing with my best friend in his back yard. Back in the 70's the parents didn't watch the kids like now. We were unsupervised and 3 yrs old and playing with this cool water toy. He said something like can you do this? and put the WATER WIGGLE in his mouth. It got caught and he drowned right in front of me. We were both 3 and I can remember it like it was yesterday. Banging on the sliding glass door to get his mom to come out. Marcus was the first water wiggle death and it happened in Baton Rouge just up from Westminster school. A couple of years later another kid in Florida did the same thing and it was pulled from shelves.

I've witnessed a bunch of other tragic things especially in my Navy days on an aircraft carrier. But nothing shaped my life like coming to terms with it at 3.

Found a reference here:

The majority of the people who were injured using the Water Wiggle were hit with the heavy aluminum nozzle as it whipped around unpredictably. There were two unfortunate fluke accidents that resulted in the deaths of a three-year-old child in 1975 and a four-year-old child in 1978. In both cases, the nozzle of the Water Wiggle became lodged in the youngsters’ mouths, forcing large quantities of water down their throats. Both kids died of drowning even though they were on their lawns.
