Do you prefer VOO or VTI?

I read that they are very similar? is it ok to own both or is it better to just pick one?

I'd just pick one and go with it. I don't think you can go wrong either way. One is entire US stock market, other is S&P 500. If either fail, we got more problems than you losing your money from your pick. I personally have VOO.

Yeah, VTI is slightly more conservative due to including 4000 or so companies.
So it's lagging just a bit over the last five years.

I have VOO, used to have VTI and consolidated what I had in VTI into VOO about 5 years ago.
That said VV has outperformed them both by about 8% in my account over the last 10 years.
VV does have a .01 higher expense ratio (.03 vs .04), so that’s worth considering.

I could careless about the total market. I struggle between VOO and QQQ.

VTI is more aggressive because it owns more mid and small cap stocks, but those indexes have just lagged the S&P 500. Historically they’re more volatile.
